The University of Virginia, one of the first to enact vaccine mandates, founded by the author of the Constitution, Thomas Jefferson in 1819, is perhaps one of the most shockingly ironic examples of tyranny on campus. Our Founding Fathers built this great country to secure our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Jefferson warned:

“The Majority, oppressing an Individual—is guilty of a crime, abuses its strength—and by acting on the law of the strongest, breaks up the foundations of society.” 

What Jefferson warned against is coming true now, right in front of our eyes. The Biden administration, school boards, corporations, and college administrations are abusing their strength and are guilty of criminally oppressing individuals. If our government and universities continue to spiral down this appallingly anti-American path, their abuse of power will shatter the foundation of our entire society.

Free community forum scheduled for April 25 at U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center. 


Harrisburg, PA – WITF, in partnership with the PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, is pleased to present a FREE Community Screening of Last Days in Vietnam at the US Army Heritage and Education Center on April 25, 2015 beginning at 2:00 p.m. 


The presentation features Rory Kennedy’s 2015 Academy Award © nominated documentary “Last Days in Vietnam” and a panel of experts to provide perspective. The program is a partnership among the Army Heritage Center Foundation, the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, the U.S. Army War College, and WITF Public Media. Registration is required for the screening at witf.org/events. 


Rory Kennedy’s documentary, “Last Days in Vietnam” focuses on the chaotic final days of the American involvement in the Vietnam War, as the North Vietnamese Army closed in on Saigon. As nearby cities and villages fell to the North, U.S. diplomats and military officials in the country contemplated withdrawal. With the lives of thousands of South Vietnamese hanging in the balance, those in control faced an impossible decision—which Vietnamese citizens would go and which would be left behind to face brutality, imprisonment, or death. At the risk of their careers and possible court-martial, a handful of individuals took matters into their own hands. Engaging in unsanctioned and often makeshift operations, they waged a desperate effort to evacuate as many South Vietnamese as possible. 


After the film, WITF’s Scott LaMar will moderate a talk back session with panel experts to provide perspective. The panel includes Dr. Lewis (Bob) Sorley whose book, A Better War: The Unexamined Victories and Final Tragedy of America's Last Years in Vietnam, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize; Tom Glenn who was a senior National Security Agency officer in Vietnam at the end of the war, and COL (R) John Martin who, as an Army Lieutenant, supported the care and processing of Vietnamese refugees evacuated from Saigon to Guam as part of Operation New Life. 


WITF TV will broadcast the PBS documentary AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: Last Days in Vietnam on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. Scheduled in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, the broadcast will contain additional footage not seen during the film’s theatrical release. The broadcast is supported locally on WITF TV by the Lebanon VA Medical Center and the Army War College Foundation, Inc. 


The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC), a component of the U.S. Army War College, is a museum, research center, and educational complex dedicated to honoring soldiers and their families; preserving and making publicly available their artifacts and archival materials; and educating and inspiring visitors through programs and exhibits that promote a greater understanding of the Army's and its soldiers' contributions. GET THE BUZZ ON WITF’s CENTRAL PA SPELLING BEE:

An Exciting Opportunity for Students to Compete for a Spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee 


Harrisburg, PA — The annual WITF Central PA Spelling Bee invites 5th to 8th grade students to show off their spelling knowledge as they attempt to make their way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Top qualifying participants have the thrill of appearing on WITF TV while competing to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee including an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. and television coverage on ESPN. 


Participating schools are registered with Scripps in the fall and then conduct their own qualifying Spelling Bee for their students. In January, winners from each participating school gather to take a 100 word written test at the WITF Public Media Center. The top spellers from the written test are notified to participate in the grand championship Spelling Bee which is recorded for broadcast on WITF TV on March 1, 4 and 6. Finally, the winner from that bee qualifies to compete nationally in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. and is broadcast on ESPN. 


Students from these middle schools and elementary schools are participating in the 2015 WITF Central PA Spelling Bee written test on January 25: [*information omitted]


The Grand Championship Spelling Bee is scheduled for February 28 and will air on WITF TV on March 1, 4 and 6. 


“The WITF Central PA Spelling Bee is a great opportunity for students to participate in a friendly confidence-boosting competition that will improve spelling ability, increase vocabulary, language concepts, and develop other skills that can help them throughout their lifetimes,” said Ruth Keim, WITF Spelling Bee Coordinator.

The awards acknowledge work of the highest quality produced by radio, television and online news organizations around the world. RTDNA groups WITF in a tri-state region that includes Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. WITF competed against all radio stations in markets 51 and smaller in those areas.

Winners of the RTDNA regional awards are automatically entered in the national Edward R. Murrow Awards competition, which will be announced in June. National awards will be presented at a ceremony in New York in October.

From 2006-2014, WITF has been honored with 43 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards by the Radio Television Digital News Association -- the most of any media organization in Pennsylvania. 

In the last five years, WITF has garnered 31 regional Murrows - among the top stations in the country in Markets 51 and smaller. Additionally, it's been awarded 10 National RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards since 2007.
